entry no. 3 — the calathea verdict is in

this week i reviewed the plant that broke me, found out why 'overwatered' plants are often bone dry, and got a question about bathroom plants that deserved a real answer.

this week's review

calathea: the 11-day funeral

the most beautiful plant i've ever owned, for eleven consecutive days. verdict: never again. (for now.)

one tip that matters

the pot-lift check

before you water anything this week, lift the pot first. light = thirsty, heavy = wait. it's faster than the finger test and your plants will stop dying of kindness.

reader question

do plants actually like bathrooms or is that a myth?

depends entirely on the window. a bathroom WITH a window is a humidity paradise — ferns, calatheas and orchids genuinely do better there. a bathroom without one is just a dark room that's occasionally a sauna. the humidity doesn't compensate for zero light.
